"It never ceases to amaze me how people can spend so much money on things in their homes and then refuse to spend a few dollars to keep a thief out of it!"
John M., NY Private Investigator

"How can any parent in their right mind give control over the safety of their children to a known felon, drug abuser or reckless driver?"
Carolyn M., L.I.,  a mother

The wrong person allowed into your home can cause lots of trouble; from theft to child/elder abuse.  Would you hire someone who has been arrested for drug use, assault, larceny or any other serious crime?  Would you allow someone to drive your children to and from the nursery or grade school if they have a history of accidents or passing 'stop signs' or 'red lights'?  Would you hire someone who wasn't who they said they were?

Did  the agency you're using say they performed a background check on him or her?   Don't believe it.  The unfortunate fact is that we know that too many agencies just don't do them.  As a matter of fact they get offended that someone would think they hire criminals.  If you want to believe then VERIFY!  Ask the agency to sent you a copy of the background report.  The real one - not the State mandated.

Recommendations from a friend used to be enough, but not today.  Certainly they help but unless your friend has recently performed a background check on the subject, they know no more than you do.

Although most people don't have criminal histories, there's no guarantee they won't acquire one.   A background check is knowledge with which you can make a responsible decision.  A good driver is safer for your children than a reckless one.  People who don't owe a lot of money and have a good credit standing are less likely to steal.  Someone who has no record of assault may be less inclined to be abusive.

It's that simple.  You make the decision.
